Which is why the Shadow Links, as opposed to being a simple mirror or flat out aggressive, are usually more like pranksters. Don't remember where I heard that, but anyways, the Dark Mirror reflects ones inner darkness. I've also heard that the previous Ganon (the one killed in TP in that timeline) is the source of the darkness of the mirror, his own hatred and malice powering it. The Shadow Links (said in plural because the main example can infinitely spawn from the Dark Mirror) ARE a reflection of one's inner darkness, since, supposedly, the Dark Mirror in FSA can reflect one's inner darkness and give it form. The Dark Link appearing as the secret boss in Spirit Tracks is more towards a trial, though. An example of this would be the Dark Links summoned by Veran in OoA, who, much like the one in OoT, simply mirror his movements rather than use his skills against him (though the OoT one eventually becomes aggresive and goes on the attack, like Link's Shadow). The Zelda 2 incarnation is referred to as "Link's Shadow", at this point primarily to differentiate it between Dark Link and Shadow Link (themselves separate entities, as well), and it's basically just a magically created avatar designed to be the ultimate trial.ĭark Link, however, is likely closer to a trap or obstacle, rather than a trial.
